Johnny Barnes

Johnny Barnes is a Bermudian institution. Rain or shine, he can be found waving to passing traffic at the Trimingham Hill roundabout in Hamilton, Bermuda from roughly 4:45 am to 10 am. He is known to say "I love you, I love you," to passing commuters during the morning rush hour into Hamilton.
Born John James Adolphus Mills in 1924, he drove buses for a living, and upon retirement, took up waving to traffic. Barnes who is sometimes called "the friendliest man in Bermuda" legally changed his name in 1997. There is currently a statue of him adjacent to the roundabout. . He has become something of a tourist attraction himself, having been profiled in most guidebooks to the island.
Often he will be accompanied by people, occasionally costumed, who are promoting some charity, promoting a social cause or sometimes commercial advertising
