John Train

John Train, a New York-based investment adviser and author, was born in 1928 and attended Groton School and Harvard University. In 1953 Train co-founded and became the managing editor of The Paris Review, published by Prince Sadruddhin Aga Khan. The Paris Review published the works of such authors as Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner.

In 1959 he founded the New York money management firm now known as Train, Babcock Advisors. Train is closely associated with Cyril Northcote Parkinson, and is the founder and chairman of the Northcote Parkinson Fund, which funds the Civil Courage Prize and also channels grants from tax-exempt foundations into media projects and other endeavors[1].

Train was married in 1961 to Maria Teresa Cini di Pianzano.

He is a cousin of Russell E. Train, head of the Environmental Protection Agency under Richard Nixon and founding trustee and former chairman of the World Wildlife Fund.

Train received part-time appointments from Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton as director of government agencies and entities dealing with Africa, Asia, and Central Europe. During the administration of United States President Ronald Reagan, Train served as president of the Afghanistan Relief Committee (ARC).

Train has several decorations from the Italian government, and is an officer of the Order of St. John.

Train has written numerous columns in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, London's Financial Times, and other publications. He has written over 20 books translated into 15 languages, including:
