John Tortorella

John Tortorella (Born June 24, 1958 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA) is an American and former rightwinger in the NCAA and ACHL and current head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning, with whom he won the Stanley Cup along with the Jack Adams Award for best coach in 2004. He succeeded former head coach Steve Ludzik on January 6, 2001. He formerly coached the AHL Rochester Americans and the ACHL Virginia Lancers. He was also an assistant coach for AHL New Haven Nighthawks, Buffalo Sabres, Rochester Americans, Phoenix Coyotes and New York Rangers. He won the Calder Cup with the 1996 Rochester Americans.

Tortorella is an exuberant coach, who is also known to criticize his own players. He was particularly hard on Lightning goaltender John Grahame for much of the 2005-2006 season. Grahame was subsequently traded to the Carolina Hurricanes at the start of the 2006-2007 season.

John has a daughter named Britney attending the University of Tampa.
