John Street (Markham)

John Street is a mix aterial road and collector road in York Region or Town of Markham in Ontario. For Town of Markham's John Street, it goes in an east-west direction. The street terminates at York Regional Road 1 or Yonge Street, and York Regional Road 8 or Woodbine Avenue. East of Woodbine Avenue, the street is refer to as Esna Park Drive.

John Street is served to relieve traffic on Steeles Avenue, and Highway 7. John Street also serve as an extension of 14th Avenue, or York Regional Road 71. Some other roads that are extensions of York Regional Road 71 are Alden Road, Esna Park Drive, John Street, and parts of Centre Street in City of Vaughan.

John Street has four lanes between Woodbine Avenue and Bayview Avenue, which means there are two lanes per direction. During that section of the road, there are occasional traffic lights. This part of John Street has 1 bridge, and 1 steep valley. Between Leslie Street, and Bayview Avenue, the street heads into a steep valley, and rise up again shortly to meet Aileen Road. During that part of the road, John Street has 7 intersections with traffic light. The road is fairly straight, and heads towards the northwest direction. Between Bayview Avenue, and Yonge Street, John Street has two lanes, which means there is only one lane per direction. During that section of the road, there are several stop signs. This part of John street goes up and down through valleys and ridges. As it approaches to Pomona Mills Park, the landscape smoothen up. During this section of the road, the roadway is very narrow with a sign near Yonge Street, warning people that roads could be dangerous at times due to the fact that the street is very narrow.

  • Bishops Cross Park, one of the most famous place for hockey in winter/ local teenagers' favourite "hanging out" spot
  • R.J. Clathworthy Arena, equipped with a skating rink, perfect for hockey, and skating.
  • Thornhill Square, this mall is under construction, and expect to be [[Thornhill]'s largest mall in the future.
  • Thornhill Community Centre, equipped with a skating rink, a forum, and a library. Flooding occured here last year (2005). This centre is perfect for author visits, skatings, and reading.
  • Pomona Mills Park, redeem a little nature here.

John Street is complete and paved. It is a modern urban road between Woodbine Avenue and Bayview Avenue, and more like a suburban road near Yonge Street, due to the influence of Old Thornhill. The road is re-paved recently in 2006. Currently, no potholes are reported. 2 stop signs and 7 sets of traffic lights could be found along John Street. There is a pedestrian crossing near the intersection of Don Mills Road / Leslie Street. John street is a smooth road. Accidents do not occur frequently. The road is busy during all times, especially during office hours, and less busy during Saturdays and Sundays' nights.

Between Woodbine Avenue and Highway 404, all zonings are industrial. Between Highway 404, and Bayview Avenue, a mix of light railroad industrial and medium-density residence along the road. When the road approaches to Yonge Street, light residental areas are found.
