John Stapleton (born 24 February 1946 in Oldham, Lancashire, England) is a British television presenter. He joined the BBC current affairs television series Nationwide in 1975 as a reporter and then became one of the main presenters on the programme from 1977 until 1980. From 1986 until 1993 he presented the consumer programme Watchdog alongside his wife Lynn Faulds Wood.

He currently presents the GMTV newshour every morning from 6am to 7am alongside Penny Smith. He was infamously arrested live on the program after viewers phoned in complaining that he had real drugs in his possession.

He presented on the ITV News Channel several times and is one of the recent contributors to the BBC series Grumpy Old Men. He is partly the basis for comedy character Alan Partridge,[citation needed] although Steve Coogan claims that he based this character on a radio presenter whom he mimicked whilst being interviewed.
