John Smith (1939-1988) was a footballer, a West Ham Academy product who was born in Shoreditch, London. He made 136 appearances for the club between 1956 and 1960, playing right half and inside right. He scored 23 goals for the East London club before being transferred to Tottenham Hotspur.
