From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Servis is an American thoroughbred horse racing trainer who was a relative unknown until May 2004 when his horse Smarty Jones won the Kentucky Derby. Smarty then went on to win the Preakness Stakes further increasing Servis' reputation. Servis trains horses primarily out of Philadelphia Park in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.

He was born into family of horse trainers in Charlestown, West Virginia on February 28, 1959. He moved to Philadelphia when he was a boy.

With his increased stature, many fear that Servis will move to larger venues to train, but Servis has committed to Philadelphia Park through 2005.
