John Ronald Brown is a former United States surgeon who was convicted of murder after a patient of his died while Brown was practicing medicine without a license.
In 1977, Brown's medical license was revoked after he was charged with incompetence.
In the late 1980s, Brown served a three-year prison term after he was convicted of practicing medicine without a license. That charge came after Brown operated on a transvestite from Orange County, California who wanted a sex-change operation but first underwent a breast implant procedure, liposuction and a procedure to make his hairline look more feminine, and the man became ill after the surgery. According to court papers, Brown treated the man with Tylenol.
On May 9, 1998, Brown operated on Philip Bondy in Tijuana, Mexico. Bondy had asked Brown to amputate his left leg to fulfill an extremely rare fetish of desiring to have a healthy limb removed. Bondy died a short time afterwards in a National City, California hotel room, and was found by a friend.
Despite the fact the surgery occurred in Mexico, outside of California state jurisdiction, Brown was prosecuted in California for second-degree murder and was convicted.
