John Redcorn (originally voiced by Victor Aaron, later by Jonathan Joss), is a character in the animated series King of the Hill.

A "Licensed New Age Healer", he is Nancy Gribble's Native American masseur, her ex-lover and the biological father of Joseph Gribble. Nancy's husband Dale and Joseph are both completely unaware of this, although this fact is obvious to everyone else in the neighborhood, due to Joseph's close resemblance to his biological father. When Joseph mentions his father's vehicle, Bobby reluctantly asked "Dale Gribble?", implying that he was asking to distinguish Dale from John Redcorn. The Souphanousinphones figured it out very soon after moving to Arlen. Peggy was one of the last to realize it; Hank tells her 12 years into the affair, having assumed she knew. Despite Dale's dedication to various conspiracy theories, Dale is completely unaware of Joseph's true parentage, although he once suspected that Joseph's father was an alien.

John Redcorn tries to reach out to Joseph and instill a sense of pride in him, even though Joseph often rejects him. In a lot of ways, Joseph is really more Dale's son than he is John Redcorn's.

John Redcorn still cares about Nancy and he was hurt when she ended their affair. During one of his less inspiring moments, John Redcorn lamented to Hank "I can't believe Nancy left me..." [indicates Dale] "for THAT." Hank sadly replied "She didn't leave you for that, John Redcorn. She married THAT two years before she met you." In the Season 5 episode Spin the Choice, John Redcorn accepts the U.S. government's offer of 12 acres (5 ha) of unincorporated land to settle his lawsuit. Dale helped John Redcorn file his lawsuit under the Freedom of Information Act after the two symbolically settled their differences. John Redcorn willed the land to Dale, as a token of their friendship and as a way to pass something down to Joseph, to whom John Redcorn wishes he could tell the truth.

For some reason, he is always addressed by his full name and never simply as John. Nancy once said he has a sister, whom Nancy seems to assume told everybody about their affair.

[edit] Trivia

  • John Redcorn likes listening to 80s Hair bands and was once a roadie for Winger, later becoming frontman for a band, Big Mountain Fudgecake. Soon after, he became simply "Redcorn", what Dale called "The Native American Raffi".
  • Redcorn is an Anasazi and a Native American rights activist. His being an Anasazi is in itself a joke, since the Anasazi not only died off before white people came to North America, but they never lived in Texas.
  • Redcorn drives a Jeep Wrangler and wears white Sergio Valente jeans.
  • His exact height is unknown, but he is clearly taller than Hank, who stands 6' 2" (1.88 meters). At the time Nancy and he ended their affair, he was 36 years old.
  • A recurring joke early on the show's run involved a mysterious breeze arising whenever Redcorn spoke about his Native American heritage. The breeze would seemingly arise out of nowhere, causing Redcorn's long hair to flow majestically while faint "solemn" music would play in the background.
  • Victor Aaron voiced the character for the first two episodes, but was killed in an auto accident, causing Jonathan Joss to voice the part afterwards.
  • While he is a Licensed New Age Healer John Redcorn has his limits and refers to drinking blood for a religious cermony as "just weird".
  • There is a progressive/experimental/grindcore band from Emporia, Kansas named healmejohnredcorn.
