[edit] Managing Career

The beginning of Mayler management career in late 2006 was dealt a double blow with the announcement of the retirement of two of his top hurling players, Paul Codd and Darragh Ryan.[1][2]

[edit] Playing career

Meyler played with Our Lady’s Island up until 1979. Previously he had featured in teams at Gormanstown College from 1969-1974 and at University College Cork from 1974-1979. His inter-county career with Wexford began in 1973 and it lasted up until 1982. During his period with Wexford, he represented Wexford at minor hurling, U-21 hurling and senior in both codes.

He subsequently, spent the next twenty five years of his life with Cork. As a club player, he famously captained cork side St. Finbarr's to the all-Ireland senior club football championship title in the 1986-87 season. He switched from Wexford in 1982 to Cork hurling in 1983. He appeared as a substitute in Corks All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship win over Galway in 1986. His senior career with Cork lasted until 1987.
