John McCrory

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John McCrory is a celebrated Scottish music teacher, conductor and music theorist. He specialises in the teaching of non-jazz music: he confessed to Caber Enterprises, "I'm not a jazzer."

He is an acclaimed saxophonist, and arranger of music - recent arrangements include the arrangement of Ray Parker Jnr's Ghostbusters theme for saxophone quartet, a collaboration with two talented, young musicians: Andrew McFadzen and Arthur Ramage.

As a conductor, he has led many small scale ensembles. Indeed, this includes the CHS Saxophone Quartet of Andrew McFadzen (alto saxophone), Nikki Christie (alto saxophone), Jane McStay (tenor saxophone) and Jackson Sim (baritone saxophone) (previous members include Scott Crone on alto saxophone) - all rising stars on the Scottish music scene.

Moreover, he has appeared as a conductor on two albums - most notably conducting the CHS Band on the 1999 album John McCrory and his Band, available on JCW Records.

Indeed, his ability to propel young musicians to stardom has been noticed by many, including international jazz star Laura Macdonald.

He has worked alongside many notable Scottish musicians, including Laura Macdonald, James Culbert and Christine Walker.
