John Kennedy College is a high school found in Beau Bassin in Mauritius. Founded in 1964 and inaugurated by the then Governor General Sir John Shaw Rennie, it has proved to be one of the most prestigious colleges in Mauritius. It was founded in 1964, bearing the name of the famous American president John F. Kennedy. Since its foundation, it has encountered many alterations in both the material and pedagogical system.

It has over the years produced a number of high calibre students of whom many were laureates, eminent politicians and professionals in Mauritius. Students from John Kennedy College have eventually gained places in prestigious and world renowned universities for example: University of Cambridge, London School of Economics, University College London, Stanford University, Manchester University etc...


The main strengths of John Kennedy College are the Sciences, Technical Subjects and Economics. John Kennedy College was initially more technically oriented, basically due to the fact that when the school was built it had state of the art workshops and equipments. Nonetheless over the years the school also made its name in the field of science by producing laureats and students ranked just after. Presently John Kennedy College is considered to have the one of best secondary college laboratories for Physics and Chemistry in Mauritius.

As far as the students are concerned, they are amongst the best in Mauritius and worldwide whenever the chance is given to them to show their capabilities in foreign universities. The John Kennedy College students are also known as kennedians or eagles. The favorite color and most official for the representation of the college is the purple which is also very much related to rebellion in some countries and militancy in Mauritius. The college has also been the cradle of rebellion in Mauritius and saw the emergence of a new mindset which would push the country forward from the early seventies until the late eighties. To this day when the paths of past students crosses whilst journeying around the globe, these aging kennedians remember with pride the college that molded them into egalitarian thinkers, autonomous innovators and tenacious fighters.

The John Kennedy College is also represented by the eagle which is the official emblem of the college. The kennedians ( John Kennedy College students ) are also very famous for their songs. Those songs are mostly about the pride of the John Kennedy College and its students. The most important events for the students of the John Kennedy College are the Sports day, the music day and the Inter-college. The sports day is a day where all students feel proud to support their fellow friends and have fun singing songs about the college and indulging in the many sports available. The music day is also much awaited as the students can then give the audience a taste of their talent. As far as the Inter-college is concerned, the John Kennedy College used to participate in it before and were very famous as one of its students was an African champion. The big JKC flag.
2 flags were made in the last decade and they were about 45feet long and 30 feet large. One was black and purple and was used to cover the students in the stadium while they would go under it and sing the Jkc songs and play drums, tasa, ravanne and marfa. The other one was purple and white, and has been seen many times at the sports days, at the laureate celebrations, the music days. This flag is the most famous of the 2 and can be seen on many pictures taken by the kennedians during their celebrations.
