John Jenkins Barrow

John Jenkins Barrow (born October 31, 1955) is a lawyer and politician.
Barrow was born and raised in Athens, Georgia. He graduated from Clarke Central High School in 1973, and then the University of Georgia. He entered Harvard Law School at the age of 20 and graduated in 1970. He served as a law clerk for Alex Lawrence of Savannah and Judge Tom Clark of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He became Clarke County commissioner in 1990.
Barrow is married to Victoria Pentlarge, a vetrinary ophthalmologist. They have two children, James and Ruth. Barrow is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Athens. He has served as a deacon there and he sings in the choir.
On November 2, 2004, John Barrow narrowly defeated Republican incumbent Max Burns, to become the Georgia's 12th District U.S. Congressman.
