Sir John Stewart Hobhouse, Baron Hobhouse of Woodborough, PC, (31 January 1932 – 15 March 2004), was a British judge and law lord.
The son John Hobhouse , was born in Mossley Hill, Liverpool. He was educated at St Andrew's, Pangbourne, and Eton, Yorkshire. Had been working abroad in Australia and New Zealand on a sheep farm, Hobhouse returned to Christ Church, Oxford, in 1951. He was called to the Bar, Inner Temple in 1955, becoming a Bencher afterwards.
Hobhouse was made a high court judge in 1982 and was invested to the Privy Council in 1993. From 1993 to 1998, he was Lord Justice of Appeal. On 1 October 1998 he was appointed Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, receiving additionally a life peerage as Baron Hobhouse of Woodborough, of Woodborough in the County of Wiltshire.[1]
Lord Hobhouse was married to Susannah Roskill, they had two sons and one daughter.
