John Henry Smith

John Henry Smith (September 18, 1848October 13, 1911) born in Carbunca, Iowa, was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from October 27, 1880 until April 7, 1910. He also served as First Counselor to President Joseph F. Smith in the First Presidency from April 7, 1910 until his death. His father, George A. Smith, was also an apostle and member of the first presidency. He fathered 19 children, one of whom was George Albert Smith, who would later become an apostle and president of the church. John Henry Smith and his son George Albert Smith were the only father son pair to be in the quorum of the twelve at the same time.

John Henry Smith was also a prominent republican in Utah politics from the time the church decided to abandon support of the People's Party and divide among the two national parties.
