John Hayes ONZM is a New Zealand politician and former diplomat. He currently serves as a member of Parliament.
Hayes attended Rongotai College and Lincoln University, gaining a degree in agricultural science. He joined the diplomatic service, and eventually served as High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea and Ambassador to Iran. He was involved in the Bougainville peace process, being made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his work.
In the 2005 election, Hayes was a candidate for the National Party, standing in the Wairarapa electorate and being ranked 50th on the party list. He won the Wairarapa seat and entered Parliament.
