John H. Striebel

American illustrator and comic strip artist best known for the syndicated newspaper comic strip Dixie Dugan1929 - 1966.

John H. Striebel began working at age 14 as a political cartoonist for the South Bend Daily News, in his home town of South Bend, Indiana. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, he moved to Chicago where he became an advertising illustrator for the Chicago Tribune. His art work also appeared in a comic strip, 'Pantomime' and he illustrated stories for magazines.
In 1929, he began illustrating the syndicated newspaper comic strip Dixie Dugan, created and written by J.P. McEvoy. Striebel continued to work on this strip until the early 1960s when Al Bare and Dave Huffine helped him with the illustrations when he became ill.
