John Gilbert (1812 – June 28, 1845) was an English naturalist and explorer.
Gilbert was a taxidermist for the Zoological Society of London, where he met John Gould. He travelled to Australia in 1838 with the Goulds and spent the next few years collecting natural history specimens for Gould's planned publications. After Gould returned to England Gilbert remained in Australia and joined an expedition led by Ludwig Leichhardt. Gilbert was killed by aborigines during the expedition.
