John Frost (born May 20, 1980 in Waterford) is an Irish professional footballer who currently plays for St. Patrick's Athletic F.C. in the eircom league Premier Division.
Frost first came to notice when nominated for the FAI's Schools player of the year in 1998. He was a regular in the the Republic of Ireland youth teams by then and soon made his debut in the League of Ireland for hometown club Waterford United. His performances led Frost to being called into the Republic of Ireland under 21 squad. In 2000 Waterford lost a relegation play off and many commentators expected him to leave. Frost stayed loyal and was rewarded with club captaincy.
Frost is a left full back and joined St. Pats from Waterford United in July 2005 when financial difficulties forced Waterford to offload their top players. Frost had been captain of his hometown club. A series of outstanding displays endeared him to St Pats fans as the club just survived relegation at the end of the 2005 season. Waterford won promotion by winning the First division in 2002-03 season and Frost had his first senior medal. He earned another medal the following season as Waterford reached the final of the FAI Cup. Unfortunately for Frost, he didn't get to raise the cup as two late goals from Longford Town won it in dramatic fashion[1]. During the 2005 it emerged that Waterford had hit severe financial troubles and, despite selling Daryl Murphy to Sunderland, they were forced to off load their higher profile players. Frost signed for St Patrick's Athletic in July and quickly endeared himself to supporters with a series of impressive tough tackling displays as the Saints avoided relegation.
