John Fletcher (1941 - 1987) was an English tuba player. John was principal tubist with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and is regarded as one of the finest exponents of the instrument. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Tuba-Euphonium Association.[1]

John Fletcher is widely regarded amongst most (especially British) Tubists as the greatest ever exponent of the instrument. His sound and technique are still seen as a shining example that many still strive towards today. He was also an excellent teacher and taught one of the great living English Tubists -Patrick Harrild, who took over from John as Principal at the LSO.
