John Faa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Faa, normally known as Lord Faa, is the King of the Gyptians in the fictional trilogy His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. When the Oblation Board starts kidnapping children, he leads 170 of his men to save them from a terrible fate.
He is a brave warrior, if past his prime. All his followers treat him with respect. He is open to advice, and considerate of all. His good friend is the aged Farder Coram.
At times, he seems dismissive of the heroine, Lyra. If so, this is only because he considers her, rightly, very young - too young to take such risks as she does. He does not think her wise enough to listen to. However, he is willing to admit that he was wrong. Lyra admires him and grows fond of him.
He is wounded in an ambush where many of his Gyptians perish, despite the action of Iorek Byrnison, his hired bear. However, he carries out his mission successfully. His weapon of choice is a warhammer.
