John Ehle

John Ehle (born December 13, 1925) is an American writer known best for his fiction set in the Appalachian Mountains. Two of his novels, The Winter People and The Journey of August King, have been adapted into film.
Ehle was instrumental in the founding of The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, the first such state-supported high school for the gifted and talented in the United States.
Ehle was born in Asheville, North Carolina. He is married to the actress Rosemary Harris and is the father of actress Jennifer Ehle. The Ehles have residences in Penland, Winston-Salem, New York City, and London.
