John Debney

John Debney (born Glendale, California, 18 August 1956) is a prolific American film composer who received an Oscar nomination for his score for Mel Gibson`s The Passion of the Christ.

He was the composer for the 1996 Doctor Who television movie, for which he wrote incidental music and an arrangement of Ron Grainer's theme music. He also wrote music for Cutthroat Island, Sin City, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Relic, Scary Movie 2, the first and second Spy Kids movies, and several television series including Star Trek: The Next Generation. Debney has won three Emmy Awards for his work on television series The Cape, SeaQuest DSV, and The Young Riders.

John also composed a number of animated series, including Bravestarr, Jonny's Golden Quest, Police Academy, Jetsons: The Movie, The Halloween Tree, A Pup Named Scooby Doo, Zazoo U and Dink, the Little Dinosaur and he wrote the theme song for the 1993 American version of Dennis the Menace for DIC Entertainment.

Among the famous movies Debney worked on were Elmo in Grouchland, I'll Be Home for Christmas, Inspector Gadget and Chicken Little.

On the set of Mel Gibson's controversial The Passion of the Christ, Debney claimed to have experienced several weird, unexplained events involving the destruction of his equipment. He believed it was the work of the Devil, whom he challenged to a fist fight in the parking lot on the set, as he had grown immensely aggravated with the inconveniences on set.^{[citation needed]}
