John Coghlan (drummer)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Coghlan (born John Robert Coghlan, 19 September 1946, in Dulwich, London, England) was an original member of the English rock band, Status Quo.
He joined Status Quo - then called The Spectres - in the early 1960s. His drumming can be heard on Status Quo classics like "Caroline", "Down Down", "Rockin' All Over The World" and "Whatever You Want".
He left the group in late 1981, to be replaced by Pete Kircher, formerly of the 1960s band Honeybus. After his departure Coghlan played with Partners In Crime who failed to create major attention.
His own band, John Coghlan's Diesel, was a loose ensemble which consisted of friends he got to know in his Status Quo years, most notably Bob Young and Andy Bown. Diesel never signed a proper recording contract.
Coghlan plays occasionally in a Status Quo cover band (State of Quo aka. John Coghlan's Quo) and tours with the King Earl Boogie Band.
