John Chambers (CEO)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Chambers is president and CEO of Cisco Systems.

He joined the company in 1991 as senior vice president of Worldwide Sales and Operations and was promoted to CEO in early January 1995. Prior to joining Cisco, Chambers worked at Wang Laboratories for eight years and at IBM for six years.

Chambers holds a bachelors in business and a law degree from West Virginia University, as well as a MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University-Bloomington. Chambers attended Duke University from 1967 until 1968. While at Duke, he was a member of the School of Engineering and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He is currently married and has two children.

In the 1990's, at the height of the dot-com boom, Chambers was voted "the best boss in America," by an independent nation wide survey. [citation needed] His ability to stay at a close level with all employees was demonstrated by walking around the office and passing out ice cream and candy to his employees.[citation needed] He even worked in a cubicle and flew coach on planes to demonstrate that a CEO didn't need to separate himself from the rest of a companies' employees.
