John Cadwalader (April 1, 1805 – January 26, 1879) was an American lawyer, jurist, and politician from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1821 and was admitted to the bar in 1825. He became a solicitor for the Second Bank of the United States in 1830. He represented Pennsylvania in the United States House of Representatives from 1855 to 1857. From 1858 till his death he was a judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and served as United States Assistant Secretary of State from 1874 to 1877.
He died in 1879 and is buried in Christ Church Burial Ground in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with his wife, Henrietta Bancker Cadwalader, their five children and one grandson who died at age two.
