After World War II, John Bowers (b. in Worthing, UK in 1923, d. 1987) started his career in hifi in opening a retail store. In 1966 he founded Bowers & Wilkins loudspeakers. In his approach to perfect reproduction John Bowers applied extensive R&D and engineering, leading to the revolutionary 1979 Bowers & Wilkins 801 studio monitor.
Near his life's end, John Bowers released the John Bowers Active 1 loudspeaker under his own brand name.
