John Campbell Arbuthnott, 16th Viscount of Arbuthnott, KT, CBE, DSC (born 26 October 1924) is a Scottish peer and a notable businessman.

[edit] Early life
Lord Arbuthnott was educated at Fettes College, Edinburgh and at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he studied estate management and earned an MA degree.

During World War II, Lord Arbuthnott served in the near and Far East and Pacific theatre (1944–1945) with the RNVR, Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy (1942-46) and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) 1945.

Lord Arbuthnott is a chartered surveyor and Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS) and Land Agent; he holds a Doctor of Laws degree (LL.D.), and is a Justice of the Peace (JP) and a Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
The Viscount served as a Director of the venerable investment firm Scottish Widows (1978–1994) and of the Clydesdale Bank (1985–1992).
He is a Fellow of Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE), was Lord Lieutenant of Kincardineshire (1977–1999), Prior of the Scottish Order of St. John (GStJ) (1983–1995), and served as Her Majesty's Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland (May 1986–1987).
He was Chmn, Red Deer Commission 1969-75; President, British Association for Shooting and Conservation (1973-??); The Scottish Landowners' Federation (1974-79); Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (1976-); Scottish Agricultural Org'n Soc (1980-83); RSGS (1983- ); Federation of Agricultural Co-operatives (UK) Ltd (1983-); Dep Chmn Nature Conservancy Council (1980-85); Chmn Advisory Committee for Scotland (1980-85).

Lord Arbuthnott has been honoured by the Crown with the titles of Knight of The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle (KT) and Commander of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE).

The Viscount, who bears a name long notable in British affairs, is the son of General (Robert) Keith Arbuthnott, 15th Viscount of Arbuthnott. He married Mary Elizabeth Darley Oxley on 3 September 1949; they have one son, Keith Arbuthnott, Master of Arbuthnott, and one daughter.
