Johannine literature
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johannine literature is the collection of New Testament works that are attached by tradition to the person of John the Evangelist. The collection is usually considered to include:
- The Gospel of John
- The First Epistle of John
- The Second Epistle of John
- The Third Epistle of John
- The Book of Revelation
The five works show some similarity in imagary, but differ greatly in style and presentation. Some bilical scholars reject entirely the idea of a unified corpus of Johannine literature, whereas others see the works as the product of an early Christian community with links to John the Evangelist.
