Johannesburg Stadium is a stadium in the Doornfontein suburb of Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, South Africa. It was originally built as an athletics stadium and is now the home of one of South Africa's most famous football sides, the Orlando Pirates. The stadium was built beneath a sweeping roof and can accommodate 37,500 people. The stadium has excellent acoustics, making it a popular location for other open-air events and concerts. The athletics events of the seventh All Africa Games were hosted here in 1999, South Africa's first major African sporting event since the ending of apartheid. The eighth IAAF World Cup of Athletics was held at the stadium in 2003, with 58 countries competing.
