Johann Friedrich Höger
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johann Friedrich (Fritz) Höger (June 12, 1877 - June 21, 1949) was a German architect.
His best-known work is the Art Deco Chilehaus in Hamburg, constructed 1922-1924 for saltpeter importer Henry B. Sloman. Höger constructed several other office buildings, a school including a planetarium, the Kirche am Hohenzollernplatz in Berlin, and the Wilhelmshaven town hall.
Although Höger sympathized with national socialism, his expressionistic style did not meet Hitler's taste. As Höger did not follow the preferred classicistic marble style of Nazi architecture, he could not obtain a position as state architect.
