Johan Elmander ['juːan ɛl'mɑndɛr] (born May 27, 1981 in Alingsås, Sweden) is a Swedish football player, currently playing for the French club Toulouse FC in the Ligue 1 championship. He has scored eight goals in 25 international team matches for the Swedish national team, and he was chosen to represent his country at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Elmander started his career in Swedish clubs Holmalunds IF and Örgryte IS, before the young striker made the move to big Dutch club Feyenoord at the age of 18. He never became a mainstay in the first team, but he was a part of the 2002 UEFA Cup winning Feyenoord team, and he came on as a substitute in the final 3-2 win against German team Borussia Dortmund. He was subsequently put on loan, first back in Sweden with Djurgårdens IF, and later at Dutch league rivals NAC Breda.
Before the 2004-05 season, he was bought by Danish Superliga outfit Brøndby IF. Despite not scoring as many goals as was expected, he was the playmaker and creative spark of that season's Danish Double-winning Brøndby team, and he was voted his club's 2005 Player of the year. In all, he scored 22 goals in 58 Superliga games for Brøndby, attracting the attention of several clubs throughout Europe. Having initially been linked with Scottish club Rangers F.C., Elmander signed a four-year contract with French side Toulouse FC on 7 July 2006 for an undisclosed fee.
