Joey Allen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joey Allen is best known as a guitarist from the American glam metal band Warrant.

Allen was born as Joseph Allen Cagle on June 23, 1964 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, but grew up in Orange County, California. His father is a retired executive, while his mother worked for the Orange County school district.

Allen played in approximately 20 bands before joining Warrant. His influences include guitarists Gary Moore, Eddie Van Halen, and Randy Rhoads.

Allen met guitarist Erik Turner in 1979 and they formed the band Knightmare II. Allen left the band to attend trade school and was awarded an associate’s degree in electronic engineering in 1985. In the meantime, Turner had formed Warrant. Allen joined the band in March 1987, replacing guitarist Josh Lewis.

Allen married his long-time girlfriend Kathy Conan on August 27, 1990. Their daughter, Kylie Jo, was born the following year. Though Allen and Conan eventually divorced, they remain good friends.

In 1994, Allen left the band and became a Microsoft Certified Programmer and went to work for a software company. 10 years later, he rejoined Warrant.

It was widely rumoured that Allen and fellow guitarist Erik Turner had not played a note on the first two Warrant albums, and that all guitar work had been performed by ex Streets guitarist and session musician Mike Slamer;[1]. The rumour has never been verified, although Slamer's wife confirmed in 1998 that her husband played guitar on both records.[2]

RealMedia clips from Knightmare II's Death Do Us Part EP can be found at http://www.vibrationsofdoom.com/test/KnightmareII.html. Erik Turner says he left the band before the recording of this EP, but that Joey Allen did play on it.
