Joel Salatin is author of several books, including You Can Farm and Salad Bar Beef. The concept of pastured poultry originated with him, and he has been successfully utilizing this and several other novel methods of animal husbandry for his direct-marketed meat business. He doesn't deliver - people have to come and pick up their own meat and the chickens must be ordered ahead of time and are slaughtered on the day of sale. Salatin's farm is in rural Virginia and he can be reached through his business address at Polyface Farm Inc.

His farm and system is featured in one of four parts of the book The Omnivore's Dilemma, by Michael Pollan, 2006.
