Dr. Joel Beinin is professor of Middle East History at Stanford University and prolific author on the region. He currently serves as Director of the Middle East Studies Department at the American University in Cairo.
[edit] David Horowitz Lawsuit
Dr. Beinin filed a lawsuit against writer and activist David Horowitz for copyright infringement regarding the use of a photo of Beinin on the cover of his incendiary booklet "Campus Support for Terrorism". The photo in question was acquired for the purposes of the lawsuit from photographer Ted Mock, a year after it had appeared on the booklet. Copyright law allows the use of photographs of prominent people for the purpose of comment and criticism.
