Joe Caber

Ensign Joe Caber is a fictional character in the non-canon Star Trek series Stargazer.

Joe Caber was assigned onboard the USS Stargazer in security, and shared quarters with Ensign Andreas Nikolas. Caber's father is an admiral in Starfleet, and because of this, Joe Caber had a very brash and cocky attitude, confident his father would get him out of any trouble with his superiors.

Caber took a specific dislike to the deputy security chief, the Binderian lieutenant Obal, whose frail chicken-shaped body structure and humble, apologectic manners made him an easy target. Caber constantly verbally abused Obal when serving with him, which annoyed Nikolas and security chief Pug Joseph, but they were able to tolerate him, until finally Caber went as far as physically assault Obal entirely without provocation. To everybody's surprise, Obal fought back, and managed to knock Caber out.

After learning of the events, Captain Jean-Luc Picard dismissed Caber from his crew. He was transported away from the Stargazer together with former chief science officer Juanita Valderrama, who had been dismissed because of unethical behaviour. When Picard asked them if they had anything to say for themselves, Valderrama admitted she had been wrong and apologised, but Caber continued his proud, self-centered attitude, threatening Picard with punishment from his father.

Caber's father was later asked to judge Picard at a court martial, together with admirals Arlen McAteer and Mehdi. To Picard's surprise, Admiral Caber judged in favour of him, because he thought his son was a stuck-up brat and deserved what Picard had done to him.
