Jocelyn Burdick

Jocelyn Birch Burdick, (February 6, 1922 in Fargo) Democrat of North Dakota, was a United States Senator briefly during 1992. Upon the death of her husband, Senator Quentin N. Burdick, Governor George Sinner appointed her to fill the vacancy until a special election was held. She was no candidate for election to the rest of the term and retired to Fargo upon the election of Kent Conrad to the office. She holds the record as the only female Senator North Dakota has ever had. She lives in Fargo where she continues to remain active in politics.
