jobs.ac.uk is an online recruitment advertising service or jobs board, specialising in vacancies in the academic sector. It is now widely regarded as the leading HE recruitment website for the UK, advertising vacancies from Lectureships to Secretaries for a range of clients in education, the public sector and commercial companies. jobs.ac.uk is based at the University of Warwick on the Science Park.
[edit] History
jobs.ac.uk was created in 1997 by the University of Warwick- the brainchild of the former Deputy Director of Personnel, Alex Sproat, who realised how expensive and ineffective traditional recruitment channels were becoming. The idea was then taken up by the Universities Advertising Group (UAG) - a consortium of 37 UK institutions, responsible for the procurement of cost effective recruitment advertising to the HE sector - of which Warwick, Manchester, Oxford, Cambridge and Birmingham Universities are members.
[edit] The Present
Since 1997, the operation has grown considerably and jobs.ac.uk now occupies modern office-space on the University of Warwick's Science Park in Coventry. In February 2004, Alex Sproat retired from the site as Director and was replaced by Andrew Gordon. Many of the team at jobs.ac.uk are students at the University. Often graduates and mature students, they have provided the organisation with a talented, intelligent and loyal workforce.
jobs.ac.uk is part of the UK's Higher Education web services including HERO and Graduate Prospects and is now part of a wider European Union level research jobs portal called ERA MORE, a venture supported by jobs.ac.uk and The British Council. jobs.ac.uk also has a strong working relationship with The Association of Commonwealth Universities.
