João Paulo Emílio Cristóvão dos Santos Coelho Barreto commonly nicknamed João do Rio was a Brazilian writer and an important Brazilian person of African descent. He was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in the country of Brazil, in August 5, 1881, and he died in the same city on June 23, 1921. Do Rio was a well-known and openly self-declaired homosexual person.
