[edit] Closing AfD nominations

Hello! When speedily deleting articles that have been nominated for AfD, don't forget to close the associated discussion too! I have closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zahid Ahmed (Artist, writer, National College of Arts), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Experiment 001 and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/F-ups (album) for you today. Regards, (aeropagitica) 16:44, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Actually I'd prefer a process where different admin does the closing just to double check that the speedy deletion was appropriate. Of course my deletions are invariably correct so I might as well always close the discussions myself in the future ;-) jni 09:41, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Not Posh Deleted

Hello jni,

You deleted my contribution Not Posh (db-A7 contributor requested deletion). I didn't want it deleted. Why did you delete it? I'll have to enter it again, and hope this time it isn't deleted.

Kind regards Ian

[edit] User:William M. Connolley/Compliments and endorsements

In my reading of Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, this further seems to qualify the page as a delete.

Wikipedia is not a blog, webspace provider, or social networking site. Wikipedia is not MySpace. You may not host your own website, blog, or wiki at Wikipedia. Wikipedia pages are not personal web pages. Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they may be used only to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia. If you are looking to make a personal webpage or blog, please make use of one of the many free providers on the Internet. The focus of user pages should not be social networking, but rather providing a foundation for effective collaboration. Many of the policies listed here apply to your user page as well. Your user page is not a personal homepage, nor is it a blog. More importantly, your user page is not yours. It is a part of Wikipedia, and exists to make collaboration among Wikipedians easier, not for self-promotion. --65.103.134.239 11:42, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Why do you care what he has in his own user page? There is nothing offensive or illegal there and the quotes in that page came from his RFC process. So you are saying that we are not allowed to review material from Wikipedia dispute resolution processes in user pages? Please don't bother anyone with this anymore. jni 12:55, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Userfying pages

Thanks for speeding the redirect I created at Burak kanmaz. Is there a better way for a non-admin to userfy a page like that? Stupidly, it didn't occur to me until after I did it that I'd be creating a cross-namespace redirect. Thanks. Dina 13:56, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

There isn't another way and it would be bad if non-admins could "hide" their page moves easily. You handled this correctly. Just mark the cross-namespace redirect as speedy deletion and someone will zap it sooner or later. jni 14:03, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion review ANAN NIKETAN COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE WARORA CHANDRAPUR

There's information you probably missed in closing this AfD[1] early. As far as I can tell from quick googling, both the Anand Niketan College and College of Agriculture are notable through being founded by Baba Amte as part of his projects for leprosy patients. (Pity that MER-C made a crack about Indian typing skills?) I'd point you to: Baba Amte's biography for his Ramon Magsaysay Award at [2] which confirms he founded them; [3] which says the student accommodation was built by leprosy patients; a recent third party source[4] about an agricultural project involving faculty; and the map [5] showing the College and the leprosy project Anandwan next door to each other (oh, zoom out a bit). What do you think? --Mereda 17:16, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I'd just reopen the debate and relist it. MER-C 01:53, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
If someone wants to recreate this article they may do so as far as I'm concerned. I don't think there is any point in undeleting this or continuing the AfD because the text really would need heavy cleanup amounting to a total rewrite and even the article title was not correct. jni 06:28, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks. I agree the article title isn't even a plausible redirect, but I still wanted to recycle anything I could from the first editor's text before starting a new version. Somehow I'm just guessing this might have come from a newbie. Was there a username?? Mereda 15:13, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

If you like, I can merge and undelete the deleted revisions once someone has set up a replacement article. jni 07:26, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Devil's marble.jpg

Sorry if it wasn't appropriate to ask a question on the talk page. ^^; Thought it was best that I ask there instead of hassle another user possibly needlesly over it. -WarthogDemon 08:05, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I inadvertently deleted it as an orphan talk page before noticing the image is in Commons. My take for an answer to your question is: yes, I think you are allowed to use the image on your user page. jni 06:20, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
