[edit] Noah Peters

Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/User:Noah_Peters Please visit again. I have added an update. Apollomelos 04:16, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Uh, what a mess this has become. I'll monitor this issue as my time permits. jni 07:28, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Geo-stubs

Hi Jni, I notice you've been wikifying a few geography stubs such as KimberleyB.C. and Lescout (good!), and giving them generic "geo-stubs" rather than their country specific stub messages (not so good!). There are a whole range of separate country and continent geo-stubs, such as France-geo-stub, all of which are listed at the top of Category:Geography stubs, Most of them are simply in the form countryname-geo-stub. What you're doing is useful, but it'd be even more useful if you could give the more specific stub messages if they exist. Thanks :)! Grutness|hello? 11:57, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the hint. I have used some of the country-specific geo-stubs before, for example Australia-geo-stub, but I have never bothered to locate the exhaustive list of all different variants. I'll take a look at the geography categorization at some point. I have been lately mostly filtering the incoming junk at Special:Newpages, so if you see me using edit summary basic wikify or something similar, it means I only did some quick-and-dirty cleanup and moved to next article. jni 12:08, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Fair enough. I realise there are a lot of them, so it's not the sort of thing that people can memorise which ones do or don't exist, but any help here is appreciated. Thanks! Grutness|hello? 09:30, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bit of a problem with votes for deletion page...

I placed the article Sophie Neveu to the pages voted for deletion. For some reason it is shown as the first page for deletions today. I can't figure out how to move it to be the last! Help, you are my only hope!

[edit] Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003

Hi, sorry to bother you. I have noticed your NPOV dispute tag on this article – as you have not explained it on the talk page. Thanks, Smoddy | ειπετε 20:06, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I honestly don't recall why I put that tag in; the article had few sentences with tone not suitable for encyclopedia text but reading it today I cannot find any ground for NPOV violation. Must be a mishap during RC patrol on my part. I have removed the tag and edited the article a little bit. jni 07:09, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Great, thanks. Smoddy | ειπετε 18:00, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] LaRouche

Hi, I saw your comment on the LaRouche page about not putting evidence into the main namespace, but didn't follow what you meant. SlimVirgin 08:02, Jan 31, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry if my edit summary was cryptic, I guess I should have dropped a note to your talk page beforehand. From Special:Newpages I noticed you had created something that resembled an anon IP user page in the main encyclopedia space: 172.194.97.169, instead of User:172.194.97.169. I deleted the former after I checked the latter page was identical. From the deletion log:
07:57, 31 Jan 2005 Jni deleted 172.194.97.169 (duplicate of User:172.194.97.169 in wrong namespace, content was: 'LaRouche activist SlimVirgin 07:06, Jan 31, 2005 (UTC)')
I haven't reviewed the Arbitration case in question and don't know anything about this LaRouche business, I'm just currently cleaning obvious CSD candidates and other namespace pollution. jni 08:14, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Please dont block 212.219.207.41

This ip is from a school and by blocking it you would be puting a lot of people at a disadvantage

Above by 212.219.207.43. Since all "contributions" to date by that IP are pure vandalism, I have to disagree about the consequences of my block. Note that blocking does not prevent *reading* Wikipedia. jni 12:02, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] User:Faethon

Hi Jni, I just saw what you put on user:Faehton's talk page about him listing pages for deletion. He just listed for delete a page I really put a lot of hours into: Football World Cup 2002 (squads). I explained my reasoning for the page on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Football World Cup 2002 (squads), in case it wasn't obvious. Is it possible just to wipe out the Votes for deletion page, as it's obvious the guy is just out on a self-annoited mission. --Dryazan 14:12, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I think I explained you the reason I put it for deletion. In my opinion it is not encyclopaedic. I am sorry about your hard work. Faethon 06:38, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)
I don't think it is possible to withdraw this VfD early; there is no clear evidence suggesting this is a vandalous deletion request and there already is one 'delete'-vote by unrelated Wikipedian listed. To me, User:Faethon's editing looks like "The unexpected" as defined in Wikipedia:Vandalism#What vandalism is not. Note that my comment in his talk page refers mainly to this highly erratic edit: [1] and few others of similar kind, not so much to this VfD nomination where I just corrected few Faethon's minor procedural errors. jni 14:56, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)
I am sorry about "what wikipedia is not" I just wanted to put an npov sign insteed. But when I put it, someone remove it also. Is it forbitten to dispute the neutrality of this article? Faethon 06:30, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Can we delete this now? The vote is something like 20-2. Other people are calling it "ridiculous" and "bogus". It's obviously it's only a one (two-?) man quest to piss people off. --Dryazan 13:56, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)

It is better to leave the voting page there for the duration of 5 days, as required by Wikipedia:Deletion policy. Otherwise someone could start complaining that the voting was unfair, policy was not followed, etc., and thus just prolong the case and waste time for all involved. After the 5 day lag time has run out, some sysop (could well be me) will de-list this from the main VfD page. Old deletion debates are archived permanently, they are not to be deleted. jni 08:52, 3 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism in progress

Why do you removed my edit? Offending is vandalism, so whats the problem?--Emax 18:33, Feb 3, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Talk:Shar Rukh Khan

I'm new to Speedy deletes as mentioned before. However I've participated in several Vfd listings and votings. I went through the Undeletion policy but couldn't find anything specific on speedy deletes. Only 1 line in the "To request that a page (or image) be restored" section which says that undeletions for speedy deletes require no notice. Also Wikipedia:Votes for undeletion says nothing about speedies, and seems to be meant for Vfd deletes only. So the question is : is there a policy for speedy delete undeletions ? Jay 10:46, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

There is no separate policy page for speedy deletion undeletions, but we can infer something from the various policies. The key phrase in deletion policy is: Deleted pages can be restored, by administrators, if and only if there is support on Wikipedia:Votes for undeletion, or the page was speedily deleted out-of-process. So here the only if disallows all other reasons for undeletion. (Curiously, you have to use the undeletion feature when doing complex moves or page history merges... seems to be a slight oversight in the policy). From undeletion policy we found: If the page was obviously deleted "out of process" (i.e. not in accordance with current deletion policy), then a sysop may choose to undelete immediately. In such a case, he sysop who deleted the page should be informed of the undeletion and the reason for it. The page then should be listed on VfD. So undeletions for VfD deletions should go to VfU and undeletions for speedy deletions ("rogue deletions", you could say) to VfD. Sometimes one sees undeletion requests for speedies in VfU also; I don't think it this is a big deal. Also note that Criteria for speedy deletion was expanded to cover more cases last month; not all admins might be familiar with all rules about what is a valid speedy and what is not. I also suggest you take some time to monitor Special:Log/delete to see what people actually delete and restore, and for what reasons. It was that log were I noticed your restore, and decided to ask what's going on, since I was certain I had done a valid speedy deletion there. jni 12:59, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Hmm, the rule 2 from "To request that a page (or image) be restored" you mention is irrelevant to this discussion. It is a new rule that requires VfU discussions to be "advertised" in VfD also. I find that quite confusing, actually. jni 12:59, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Zé da Luz e suas Histórias

Being a n00b I don't know the right procedure for this, but since you appears to be deleting pages at the moment... Zé da Luz e suas Histórias is written entirly in Spanish(or a similar language). Should really not be in the English wikipediaFornadan 17:09, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Correct place for these is Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English. I have already reported this one there. See my contrib history and the instructions at the top of the translations page about how to do this. It can't be deleted right away because it looks sane, i.e. is not obvious nonsense-substub or a vandal artifact. jni 17:19, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Kash Jaffrey

I've changed Kash Jaffrey to {{mediawiki:noarticletext}} instead of {{vprotected}}, to bring it in line with Andre Nilsen and a few others. It's the closest we have to "protect deleted" and looks rather nice in my opinion. Hope you don't mind. --fvw* 19:47, 2005 Feb 4 (UTC)

Cool. I didn't knew we had a "standard" template for that purpose. I'll use it in the future. Note that the vandal evaded by creating Mr Kash Jaffrey before I blocked him. Expect more protection/block evasion from this guy! jni 19:56, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Stude62

I think you left a message for me. I don't have a previous account here...I happend to notice the contributions by Stude62 when he brought the OWU page to the attention of other Wiki users at the Request for help page. I tried to stay univolved in this. I have seen his edits to the page and disagree with some of them as untrue but I was unwilling to engage in an argument as he already had one with Pnikolov/Rananim. I am not an active user here, mostly use Wiki to get information but I've made contributions to a few pages. Patnaik 23:17, 6 Feb 2005 (UTC)

OK, fair enough. Hope you enjoy your time here and decide to keep contributing to Wikipedia! jni 08:28, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Lost VfD nominations

I spotted a 'lost' VfD nimnation that you resubmitted. What was the issue that caused them to become lost? (I ask because i've had 2 poof and wanted to know where I made the mistake.) -- Dbroadwell 21:01, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I call nominations that never make it to the main deletions page WP:VFD as 'lost' or 'orphan' VfDs. Most common case is when someone puts the tag to article and writes the subpage (typically with cosmetic errors like wrong heading, or no link to page etc.) but forgots to add a link to the subpage in the "log" in WP:VFD under correct date. Orphaned VfDs typically contain few votes already, but the 5-day "visibility period" is required before action can be taken. Of course one sees all kinds of variants of malformed VfD entries and it sometimes takes some time to figure out how to process them. I think I fixed about dozen VfD entries last week, is there one you are specially curious about? jni 11:39, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Adminship

Thanks for the offer. I accept. utcursch 11:35, Feb 14, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Windoze

I know it's a common term for the OS, I use it myself: [2]. But it should never be used as linktext, and as such it is not useful. Jordi· 11:40, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Why not? I can't think of any reason to delete this. In any case, it's not a CSD. jni 12:17, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you!

Just a quick "thank you" for voting me for admin. Now all I've got to do is find out how to use these worrying new powers... Grutness|hello? 05:50, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sam

The version I deleted said name "'Sam' is usually short for the given name 'Samuel', 'Samantha' or 'Samson'". I speedy deleted it for having no useful content. The version of the article as it is now is perfectly acceptable. RickK 20:40, Feb 20, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

A quick thanks for nominating and voting me to adminship. utcursch 08:00, Feb 23, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Violation ?

I, I just wanted to say that I am the one who wrote the article "PACE Academy", and I was just wondering if you could read my comment at the talk page. From there, I would appreciate it if you could make a decision of whether to leave or delete the article. Thank you for your time.
