Jinghu Expressway

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jinghu Expressway is a major road system of China, linking the capital Beijing in the north to Shanghai on the central coast. It extends over 1000 kilometres in length, and was opened in the early 2000s. It leaves Beijing on the same route as the Jingjintang Expressway, but splits into its own roadway after the city of Tianjin.

There is a plan underway to start the entire Jinghu Expressway from Beijing instead of the current situation (where the real expressway begins in Tianjin).

The expressway's name, Jinghu 京沪 is a combination of the two cities' one-character Chinese abbreviations: Jing stands for Beijing, while Hu stands for Shanghai (see Hu state).

The trip from Beijing to Shanghai by automobile takes nearly ten hours to complete.
