I think that the author of this article is really mistaken because the widest octave range some one has been able to get is about five. Not to mention that a six octave vocal range would allow him to sing as low as barry white.

His actual range is unknown, but I know for a fact that his range when he was a singer was about 6 octaves... consider that Adam Lopez has a range o 8 octaves
