[edit] Points in favor of Notability

Her plays have been published and anthologized by a number of drama publishers, including Brooklyn Play Publishers, Smith & Kraus, and Meriwether Publishing, Ltd. Her plays have received productions across the U.S., in Canada, and in the United Kingdom.
Ms. Hughes has also contributed to numerous magazines and newspapers, including the Chicago Reader, New Art Examiner, Barfly Newspaper, Cat Fancy, and other publications.

Sounds notable to me. So what's with the notability tag? Rklawton 18:40, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Points against notability

Jill wrote in January, 2005: since I have yet to make a living at writing or blogging, I think I should forgo blogging in favor of my day job. She also describes herself as a semi-published author still looking for her Big Break.[1]

If that is Ms. Hughes opinion of her notability, then I don't see how she rates a Wikipedia biography (not really counting the fact that if she starred in a porn movie, she'd rate an instant bio complete with measurements, but that says a lot more about Wikipedia and its editors than it does Ms. Hughes) Rklawton 19:36, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

RKlawton's post about Ms. Hughes being a porn star is completely inappropriate. Remove this, editors.

Also, the quote he refers to was excerpted from a piece of Ms. Hughes' humor writing, in which she pokes fun at herself; it should not be considered authors "opinion of her notability:/

Ah, so the quote was humorous and not at all factual? The porn star comment was a dig at Wikipedia's biographical notability standards. Try reading it again. Except for vandalism, talk page comments remain on public record for future reference. Your objections to them will also remain as reference and available for future editors and administrators to review. In this way they can get a complete picture of the situation - for better or worse. I highly recommend spending some time reading the various links posted on your own talk page. You'll learn a lot about Wikipedia's standards and culture. Related to that, you got off to a rather bad start by creating your own biographical article. Some folks do it, but it's highly frowned on. Just so you know. Rklawton 23:19, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

---lots of playwrights enter their own Wikibios; one of my ICWP colleagues suggested I do it, in fact. This is partially because playwrights often don't have as many traditional publishing/biography available to them, esp. when their plays are produced mostly by small/fringe theaters. Thanks RKlawton for the intro to Wikiculture.
