Jill Foster Brooks Abbott Abbott is a fictional character on CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. The part is currently played by Jess Walton since 1987 and was previously played by Brenda Dickson and Deborah Adair. Interestingly, Jill was played by Judith Chapman (who now plays Gloria on the show) for a few days when Walton was sick in the late 1980s.

[edit] Character

Former CEO of Jabot Cosmetics (formerly the head of Jabot's Men's Line), ex-wife of multi-millionaire John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) and mother of Billy Abbott (Scott Seymour) and the late Phillip Chancellor III. Jill is an ambitious and driven woman who has taken herself from the wrong side of the tracks to the executive office of one of Genoa City's most prestigious corporations.

Jill started off as a hairdresser who became friends with Katherine "Kay" Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper). Katherine, an alcoholic, was in an unhappy marriage to Phillip Chancellor II (Donnelly Rhodes). Jill and Phillip fell in love and Jill became pregnant with Phillip's child. Phillip was subsequently killed in a car crash caused by a drunken Kay, marrying Jill on his deathbed. However, Phillip's divorce from Kay was declared invalid and Jill was left nothing from Phillip's estate. The rivalry between Katherine and Jill became one of the core elements of the show for many years to come.

Jill, at times, has been a promiscuous woman and has had affairs with numerous male characters, notably Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Blade Bladeson (Michael Tylo), Rex Sterling (Quinn K. Redeker), Larry Warton (David "Shark" Fralick), Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), and John Silva (John Castellanos).

Katherine and Jill were mortified when, in 2003, they discovered that they were in fact mother and daughter. The revelation caused Katherine to have a stroke. Yet there was a greater sadness attached to this newly-revealed family connection. For years, Jill's son Billy Abbott and Katherine's granddaughter Mackenzie Browning had been in love. Finally, the two were married. However, the mother-daughter connection between Katherine and Jill meant that Mackenzie and Billy were first cousins. A horrified Jill managed to inform the newlyweds of the shocking news before the marriage was consummated. Heartbroken, Billy and Mackenzie had their union annulled, and the two separately left town.

Currently, Jill is dating William Bardwell (Ted Shackleford), the District Attorney who had just inherited a fortune from his late uncle; however, she may end up having unexpected competition from Gloria Abbott (Judith Chapman), who also seems to have her eye on him as well.
