Jhanjharpur is a small town located on the bank of Kamla-Balan river under Madhubani district in Bihar. There are two important business hubs in the town: Jhanjharpur (R.S) Market, also known as New Market and Jhanjharpur Purani Bazar. These markets are four kilometres apart. Sometimes the Kamla Balan river becomes curse for the town, frequently overflowing in July.This river is actually the amalgamation of two separate rivers, Kamla and Balan. A bridge passing over the river was constructed by the British before India's independence on 15 August 1947.
