Jhajjar (Hindi: झज्‍जर) is one of the nineteen districts of Haryana state, India. Jhajjar district, Haryana was carved out of Rohtak district on July 15, 1997. The district headquarter is situated in Jhajjar town at a distance of about 65 km from Delhi. The town is said to have been founded by one Chhaju and Chhajunagar was changed to Jhajjar. It is also derived from Jharnaghar, a natural fountain. A third derivation is from Jhajjar, a water vessel, because the surface drainage of the country for miles around runs into the town as into a sink. Other towns in the district are Bahadurgarh and Beri. Bahadurgarh was founded by Rathi Jats and formerly known as Sharafabad. It is situated 29 km from Delhi and had developed into an important of industrial canter.

The total area of Jhajjar district is 1,890 km² and its population is 7,09,000. The district consists of 2 industrial areas with 2408 plots. The basic industries are ceramics, glass, chemicals, engineering, electrical & electronics. There are 48 large and medium units 213 small scale units with the total investment of Rs. 3400 million ($ 76.5 million) and workforce of 8248. Major crops grown here are Rice, wheat and Maize. SSI units

In Jhajjar Distt. there are 1818 SSI units regd. up to 31 December 2000. The total approximate investment of these units is 9550.01 lakhs and total employment in these units is 12153. The industrial unit are engaged in the manufacture of various type of good i.e. Twin, Lab Blower, wire knitting, Gs Stoves, cooler kit, Madhani, Metal containers, Bolt, visi cooler, Machinery parts, Automobile parts, Plastic processing machinery, Thermocol packaging, RCC spun pipes, Lubricants, Footwear, Telephone, Pesticides, Tiles, Chemicals, Button socks etc.

Large and medium units

There are 35 large & Medium units in the District which are engaged in the manufacture of Sanitarywares, Diesel Engines & parts, Power driven pumps, C.R. Steel strips Pipes, Paper based decorative laminated sheets, HDEP/PP woven fabrics and bags, Ceramic, Computer stationery, Refractors, Biscuits, Glass Bottle forming machine, Spares & its accessories, Printing Glass & Bottlted to various parties. No plot is available for allotment. At the one stage all the plots had been in working condition but at present only 56 plots are working. The units set up in the area are engaged in the manufacture of Adhesive Tap, P.F. Resine, coated paper, Material handing equipment, Break lining and clutch facing, pesticides, mustered oil S.S. wire, Tooth Brush, Electrical, Lamination, Foundry, Ice and misc. Goods.

Beri used to be a village fifty years ago. it was the home land of some families of bargujar clan of the rajputs they had adopted the profession of oil extraction after embracing Islam perhaps during the british raj and came to be known as the teli family of beri.

This Estate was developed by The Haryana Urban Development Authority. There are 2322 plots which stand allotted to the various parties. At present 600 plots are in working conditions and about 800 plots construction upto 25% has been completed & the units are in various stages of implementation.
