Welcome!
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:

  • Please respect others' copyrights; do not copy and paste the contents from webpages directly.
  • Please use a neutral point of view when editing articles; this is possibly the most important Wikipedia policy.
  • If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
  • Do not add unreasonable contents into any articles, such as: copyrighted text, advertisement messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Adding such unreasonable information or otherwise editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism, and will result in your account being blocked.

The Wikipedia Tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. Again, welcome!

[edit] Rainow

I got your note about this article, but it puzzled me. All I've done in this article was revert a single line of vandalism. Maybe someone else made the edits you're thinking of? -FisherQueen 12:53, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

sorry, what do you mean? {{JFBurton 16:10, 25 November 2006 (UTC)}}

Anyway, now that I've taken a second look at the page, I'm glad you sent that message to me. I would never have looked back at this page if you hadn't messaged me, and wouldn't have seen the changes you've made, which do not reflect Wikipedia's neutral point of view. Remember that Wikipedia isn't a place for opinion, but only for facts which are supported with references. -FisherQueen 12:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Ahh, thats ok. Yeah, some people never learn.

[edit] Your edit to Buxton

I've added in the heights above sea-level in both metres and feet now, to avoid any kind of argument about which to use. I trust that will be the end of it. Since other measurements are in Metric units, I've placed the traditional Imperial Measurement in parentheses.Thank you.  DDS  talk 15:45, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, thats a good idea, Its just that most people looking at it will be english, and the english use feet. JFBurton 19:10, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Not really all of them - I don't, and I'm 53, and most children are now becoming totally metric.  DDS  talk 17:24, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

well, everyone in Buxton does JFBurton 19:10, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

I am sure you have not got any verifiable evidence that literally "everyone" in Buxton uses feet. Indeed, I happen to know that the schools will teach the children metric, and there are schools in Buxton!  DDS  talk 23:24, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, use both, then everybody's happy JFBurton 12:41, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Signing

Dear John. Please dont sign articles you have contributed to. It is agains Wikipedia Policy. Of course sign comments on talk pages. Billlion 19:52, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh is it, im sorry, I am still relativly new to Wiki. Thanks for telling me, I was wondering why it even gave you the option to sign your name. As you can see, I have been updating Kettleshulme a lot recently. JFBurton 21:13, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Devils Coach Horse

I think the Devil's Coach Horse DOES need simlifying actually LeanneMillington 16:05, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, good job I already have. JFBurton 16:06, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

No, I just looked at it and some dick has deleted it. LeanneMillington 16:38, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Nah, Its only Billlion. I probably made it a bit TOO simple. Probably best leaving it. JFBurton 16:56, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Douglas Burton

A tag has been placed on Douglas Burton, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please write {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, articles #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

Being someone's great grandson does not make one Notable. -- Fan-1967 19:01, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. Fan-1967 19:06, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unusual edit

Hi, JFBurton. I noticed that you added this to the emetophobia article. I'm not sure what it is, actually, but discussion, voting, etc., don't belong on the article's page. Perhaps it would be better on the article's talk page. Joyous! | Talk 17:53, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, thats ok. JFBurton 16:53, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Warning

Edits such as this one will not be tolerated. Please remember to be civil to other editors and not to engage in personal attacks. One more such attack will result in your being blocked from editing. -- Merope 21:38, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Understood Merope. JFBurton 21:40, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reply to your message on my talk page

No, I have no intention of helping you with your dispute.

  • 1. I'm not an administrator.
  • 2. The above-warned message on Colleenvanessa's talk page doesn't really incline me to help you in any way.

-FisherQueen 21:48, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I will have to state my worries about User:Billlion to a proper admin then. JFBurton 21:55, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm not a "proper admin", but if you explain your concerns here, I'm willing to give you an outside opinion on the dispute, whatever it's about. If you'd prefer to follow a more bureaucratic route, have a read at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. Angus McLellan (Talk) 23:56, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Holy Isle, Firth of Clyde

Perhaps you could explain to me why you don't think the history of the name of the island is relevant to the article? Simply saying that you don't it's really necessary isn't good enough. Can we discus this on the talk page please? Cheers Grinner 22:10, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your user page

Please do not identify yourself as a Wikipedia admin unless you are, in fact, a Wikipedia admin. Fan-1967 16:22, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your user page

I have not deleted anything from your user page. I have not touched your user page, as you can see by checking the history. I am not following you around Wikipedia. I only notice you when you leave messages in my talk space. The next time I receive a personal attack from you, either on my talk page or in another space, I will request that you be blocked. -FisherQueen 19:15, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

The only person to edit your user page besides you was me, when I removed the false claim that you are a Wikipedia admin. You can review the edit history yourself [1]. Fan-1967 19:17, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

JFBurton, I blocked you for continuing to make nasty personal attacks against FisherQueen. Ex [2]. Merope warned you a day ago that posts like that are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. You chose to ignore Merope's warning and continued with the same behaviour. Please sit out your block and, when you return, refrain from making attacks or commenting about other users. Sarah Ewart 20:52, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I thought you were a bot. JFBurton 11:22, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
