Jesse Hardy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jesse Hardy is a native resident of Florida, USA. He had lived in a portion of the Collier County known as the Southern Golden Gate Estates, on a piece of land about 160 acres. The state of Florida needed to flood the area to nurture the environment, and his land was eventually taken away by eminent domain for the price of $5,000,000 USD. The story of the fight between Jesse and the state of Florida attracted international attention, but he ultimately lost and was forced to move on January 13, 2006.

This was the first time in USA history in which eminent domain was used to take land for environmental reasons.
