Jess Hill

Jesse Terrill Hill (January 20, 1907 - August 31, 1993) was an American athlete, coach and college administrator who was best known for his tenure as a coach and athletic director at the University of Southern California. His career spanned over six decades. Born in Yates, Missouri, he earned letters at USC in football, track, and baseball. He played as a running back for the 1930 Rose Bowl-winning team, and played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball from 1935 to 1937.
He became USC's track coach in 1949-1950 and 1952, and became the football coach from 1951-1956, where his teams went 45-17-1, including two Rose Bowl appearances. He was the athletic director from 1957-1972, during which the athletic teams won 27 national championships. He died at age 86 in Pasadena, California.
